Our Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

We care deeply about where our coffee comes from, the conditions under which it was grown, and establishing long-term partnerships with specific farmers while prioritizing ecology and sustainability are fundamental principles of the philosophy we've adhered to at mamacoffee since our inception. That's why we import our high-quality specialty coffee directly, responsibly, and under fair conditions as part of our international coffee projects. Currently, the majority of the processed green coffee we import comes directly from farmers with whom we have established long-term partnerships and friendships. You can recognize such coffee by our mamacoffee direct brand.

Our Goals, Reasons, and Approach

Since the inception of mamacoffee, we have been committed to understanding our coffee suppliers, establishing fair and just trade conditions, and minimizing the supply chain as much as possible. Our goal is to achieve the best possible coffee quality while ensuring ecological sustainability throughout the entire process.

We regularly visit farmers and strive to provide them with feedback from the roastery, cafes, and customers. We organize cuppings and training sessions for them and invite them to coffee events. Only long-term collaboration and the involvement of a wide team of experts from mamacoffee worldwide and in the Czech Republic ensure more precise harvesting and processing, leading to a significant increase in quality. Farmers then receive better pay for higher quality coffee, and coffee lovers appreciate it in their cup.

Setting fair prices helps primarily in very poor areas to ensure better economic and social conditions. Thanks to long-term cooperation, we see how growers invest the earned money back into their farms, employees, and their families, into children's education, and health insurance, which is certainly not standard in agricultural countries.

mamacoffee's Footprints in the Coffee World

Our work on specific coffee projects began in 2015 in Guatemala. Since then, mamacoffee has demonstrated how a company from the Czech Republic can conduct global business fairly and responsibly. In the following years, we also established collaborations in Indonesia on Sumatra and in Myanmar.

For example, since 2016, we have been collaborating with Paul Toledo in Brazil. In Nicaragua, we even have two coffee projects (the Nicaragua Women’s Project and collaboration with the Chavarría family), overseen by our local colleague Chepe. We also work with a processing cooperative in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda, where our colleagues Jakub and Lukáš spent three months. In addition to these comprehensive projects, we also have longstanding partnerships with coffee farmers in Ethiopia.

Traveling for Coffee and Farmers

At mamacoffee, we don't just import any specialty coffee. Our coffee has a story, which we share with you through all our channels. You can also learn about what and who stands behind each bean on our Facebook, Instagram, or in our podcasts.
